• Water Reduction Program

Water is a precious resource and UAB has a program underway to replace mechanical equipment that wastes water such as water sealed pumps and compressors.  Building examples: THT, BBRB, VH, Sparks, JT and QBT.  Most of these have already been replaced over the last several years.  We have another program to install condensate systems for steam boilers to recycle most of the water.  Building examples: Zeigler, WP, SWB, Russell, Boshell and MEB.   Conversion of cold rooms using domestic water to chilled water has been completed during the cold room updates. Building examples: LHRC, Sparks, THT, VH, Boshell and WTI.

• Sewage Reduction Program

Unnecessary water streams previously discharged to sewage drains have been rerouted to storm drains. There are over 30 buildings this has been completed in. Building examples:  AB, CU, VH, YMFB, FAB, JT, BBRB, Bartow, HUC, WEBB, CRC, CH19, THT, WP Boiler and WTI Linear Accelerator, etc.  Kitchen grease is now being collected and recycled.  Building examples: JT, WP and SRC.
