Heating and A/C

 

Reduction of Air Conditioning & Heating Energy Consumption

  • Utilizing economizers to take advantage of natural cooler outside air for cooling instead of air conditions.  Building examples: Kaul, CRC, UDF, MCLM, THT, SDB, NP, WP, SWB, SRC, COM, RWUH, MEB, NW and JT
  • Installation/retrofitting of heat recovery systems for both new and existing buildings.  Building examples: KAUL, CRCT, Ryals, Bevill, NW and WTI
  • Installation/retrofitting to computerized/digital controls for more energy efficient and accurate operation.  Building examples: VH, LHR, SDB, Sparks, JT, WP, BDB, WTI, NP, SWB, NW and NHB
  • Utilization of set back thermostats or timers during unoccupied periods of time.  Building examples: HPB, RMSB, AB and NP
  • Geothermal consultants are evaluating potential heating and cooling options to reduce energy usage
  • Engineering Consultants have been contracted to evaluate UAB’s steam system for upgrading and potential energy savings
  • Retrofitting boilers with more efficient energy savings controls.  Facilities is currently retrofitting boilers in McCallum and FAB.  WEBB is planned for the near future.
