- Throughout its history, this department has been monitoring energy consumption, performing energy audits, implementing conservation programs, and installing equipment to conserve energy. Much of their work in the past was behind the scenes with more efficient lighting, and in the mechanical and electrical rooms where large amounts of energy is being consumed by large motors and other equipment. Recently, in addition to those on-going energy saving programs, the department has begun other energy conservation programs that encourages participation and support from all UAB employees and students.
- The Energy Management Department has begun an educational awareness campaign to facilitate support for existing and new “GREEN” initiatives at UAB. To accomplish this, the following has been implemented:
- UAB’s Energy Management’s new slogan is “Think “Green” – Save “Gold”, while playing off the school colors, the message is that conserving energy at UAB not only benefits the environment by reducing the amount of pollution and global warming, any money saved on energy can be utilized for more research, education and health care.
