Energy Conservation Tips

WALLS, FURNITURE, AND FLOORS:
  • KEEP AS WHITE AS POSSIBLE - WHITE REFLECTS LIGHT, BLACK ABSORBS LIGHT.
FANS:
  • CEILING FANS HELP REDUCE A/C COSTS - PROPERLY SIZED CEILING FANS CAN INCREASE THE COMFORT ZONE TEMPERATURE FROM 78° TO 82°.  THEREFORE, A/C CAN BE SET AT A HIGHER TEMPERATURE WITHOUT SACRIFICING COMFORT.
LIGHTING:
  • TURN LIGHTS OFF - USE 7 MINUTE RULE, IF AWAY FROM AREA 7 MINUTES OR MORE TURN THEM OFF.                   NOTE:  LIGHTS = HEAT - A/C RUNS MORE.
  • BALLASTS - REPLACE BAD BALLASTS WITH ELECTRONIC AND NEW T8 TUBES.
  • INCANDESCENT LAMPS - VERY INEFFICIENT, HEAT PRODUCER; REPLACE WITH COMPACT FLUORESCENTS.
  • REDUCE LIGHTING LEVELS TO NATIONAL STANDARD.
ENERGY WASTE - Report to Maintenance (4-5353)

Lower Your Energy Bill:

1.    Insulate your attic and outside walls (garages, crawl  spaces, etc).

2.    Insulate your hot water heater.

3.    Install storm windows and doors. For a low cost substitute, use plastic sheeting.

4.    Weather strip and caulk around doors and windows.
